Language Arts Programs

Nothing beats personalized learning. Consider Alexander the Great: he received one-on-one instruction from Aristotle. Imagine what your child could achieve with a customized education.

I offer programs based on the trivium—the liberal arts of grammar, logic, and rhetoric. The foundation of Western education for millennia, the trivium has been conspicuously absent in modern education. We’re talking about what all the great intellects cut their teeth into—Plato, Aquinas, Shakespeare, et al. The result? We’re less able to recognize reality, think critically, and act intelligently:

[The Trivium] gives us grounding for greater freedom and responsibility in three ways, by developing our ability to imagine, think, and communicate. The child needs to grow in these three dimensions to be fully integrated with society. If any of the three dimensions are lacking he will be cut off from society and become an isolated and rather lonely particle, frenetic or depressed; one lost fragment of a broken puzzle.

—Stratford Caldecott, The Beauty of the Word

My approach to the trivium differs from that of classical education. Today, we are bombarded by information. I find that the classical approach—emphasizing the memorization of definitions—often aggravates. That’s why I favor a synthetic approach. While preserving systematic rigor, I present the trivium in living, relatable ways, e.g., examining grammar (or lack of) in social media posts, deciphering the logic of op-eds, or analyzing rhetoric in songs.

Group programs are also offered in the summer and by request. Programs include—but are not limited to—book clubs, Socratic dialogues, and film analyses.

If you are interested in an individual or a group program for your child (and his or her friends), contact me here. We’ll create a program that’s tailored to your child’s needs, interests, and goals.

How can I help?

Writing an essay is like driving a car—it seems hard at first, but it becomes easy. How? With a good instructor.

Application essays allow students to convey who they are and what they want. Let's help them tell their story.

The language arts "enable a person to rise above his material environment to live [...] a free life in gaining truth." I'll teach your child how to live that freedom.
